Ocarina 3400

The Ocarina 3400 Storage Optimizer is a high-performance ECOsystem appliance that delivers Ocarina’s content-aware dedupe and compression solution. Capable of optimizing up to 2 million files per day, the Ocarina 3400 can read through large data sets on your existing storage, optimize them, and write them back to that storage in as little as 1/10th the space.

The Ocarina 3400 uses 8 high-performance compute cores to run Ocarina’s advanced patented data reduction algorithms. It is an out-of-band appliance. It does not sit in the write path, or impact write performance in any way. You tell the Ocarina 3400 which files you want to have optimized by policy – for example, all the files that have not been modified in 30 days – and the 3400 will find those files, apply the ECOsystem algorithms, and reduce the space they take.

An Ocarina Optimizer 3400 pair can process as much as 2 terabytes a day of customer files, including already-compressed files, compound documents, and rich media files. At a 10:1 optimization ratio, the 3400 could generate as much as 500 GB a day of new free space – representing 44TB of storage per quarter that you don’t have to buy, cool, or power. For customers who wish to optimize more data per day, Ocarina 3400’s can be clustered together to optimize more data per day.
