Ocarina ECOvault

Ocarina ECOvault

Ocarina ECOvault is a software option for the Ocarina ECOsystem that is a time-sequenced hyper-compressed archive. It is not a replacement for traditional file system snapshots, but rather a hyper-compressed archival solution designed specifically for nearline repositories and archives.

ECOvault extends the concept of the Ocarina ECOsystem to time-sequences of file data. It uses content-aware algorithms to find the changes from one version of a file to another in the context of what that file type is. And, it does this at the fully-decompressed information level specific to each file type. It then saves only what was changed. The difference in space efficiency is tremendous.

Each new ECOvault archive is deduplicated and re-compressed relative to previous snapshots, so each subsequent archive is more space efficient than the previous one.

And, Ocarina ECOvault can read from your primary volume and write the ECOvault store out to any tier of storage. Therefore, you can read from your Tier 1 primary storage filer and write out ECOvault snapshots to a cost-efficient, capacity-optimized tier or low cost tier.

Ocarina ECOvault is a break-through new time-sequenced archiver. It enables users to build safe, searchable long-terms archives of daily snapshots at a very low cost point. It is possible to collect snapshots from any number of files, from any number of vendors using ECOvault, and store them all in a single global hyper-compressed archive. The ECOvault archive supports WORM mode, compliance archive features, and chain of custody.
